How to Use Sikalastic 560

Sikalastic 560 is a high-performance, waterproofing system typically used for the protection of various surfaces like roofs, balconies, and terraces. It forms a durable, flexible membrane to prevent water penetration. Here's how to use it:

Materials Needed:

  • Sikalastic 560 (part A and B)
  • Mixing bucket
  • Drill with a mixing paddle
  • Applicator (brush, roller, or trowel)
  • Protective gloves
  • Safety goggles
  • Clean water (for cleaning tools)
  • Surface preparation tools (if needed)

Steps to Apply:

  1. Surface Preparation:

    • Clean the surface to be treated. It must be free from dirt, oils, dust, and loose debris. Ensure the surface is dry.
    • For smooth surfaces, lightly roughen the area using a suitable abrasive tool to improve adhesion.
  2. Mixing the Product:

    • Sikalastic 560 comes in a two-component system: the base (Part A) and hardener (Part B).
    • In a clean mixing bucket, add Part A (base) and then add Part B (hardener) at the specified ratio.
    • Use a drill with a mixing paddle to thoroughly mix the components for about 2-3 minutes until uniform.
  3. Application:

    • Apply the mixed Sikalastic 560 with a brush, roller, or trowel. Apply it evenly to the surface.
    • Ensure that the first coat is smooth and without any puddles. It's best to apply it in a thin, even layer.
    • Allow the first coat to dry for at least 4-6 hours (depending on the environmental conditions like temperature and humidity). The surface should feel dry to the touch before applying the second coat.
  4. Second Coat:

    • Once the first coat has dried, apply a second layer of Sikalastic 560 in the same manner. This layer helps to ensure full waterproofing coverage and enhances durability.
    • Make sure to apply the second coat evenly for maximum protection.
  5. Curing:

    • After applying the final coat, allow the system to cure fully. The curing time may vary depending on the conditions, but typically, it takes 24-48 hours for the surface to fully cure and be ready for foot traffic or light use.
    • The membrane reaches full strength after about 7 days, so avoid heavy loads until then.
  6. Clean Up:

    • Clean all tools and equipment immediately after use with water to prevent the product from hardening on them.

Important Notes:

  • Temperature Range: Apply Sikalastic 560 when the surface temperature is between +5°C and +35°C.
  • Storage: Store the product in a cool, dry place in its original container.
  • Safety: Always wear protective gloves and safety goggles when handling the product.
